Kapwing and Vidmini: two different kinds of tool

Kapwing describes itself as cloud-based: it runs in a web browser, your media is uploaded into its editor, and projects live in a workspace with cloud storage. It offers a timeline editor (Kapwing Studio), an AI assistant, stock assets, text to speech, dubbing and team collaboration with comments and brand kits.

Vidmini is deliberately smaller. Each page does one job, such as adding subtitles, trimming, resizing or merging, and the work happens inside your browser with the WebCodecs API and WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no upload wait and no copy of your footage on someone else's server.

Kapwing's free plan, as of September 2026

According to Kapwing's pricing page, the Free plan exports videos up to 4 minutes long, at 720p, with a Kapwing watermark, and has a monthly export limit of 30 minutes. It includes 5 GB of cloud storage and 10 credits, which cover auto-subtitling of up to 10 minutes. Kapwing's help center adds that projects on the Free plan are subject to deletion after 3 days. Kapwing's watermark policy says the watermark sits in the bottom right corner of exports made on the free plan.

The paid plans lift these limits. Pro costs $16 per member per month billed annually ($192 a year) or $24 billed monthly, and adds watermark-free exports, 4K resolution and exports of up to 120 minutes. Business costs $50 per member per month billed annually or $64 billed monthly. Enterprise is priced on request.

Where Kapwing is the better choice

If you are building a video from scratch, Kapwing does far more than Vidmini. It has a timeline and canvas, text layers, a library of transitions, stock media, screen and camera recording, text to speech, translated subtitles, dubbing and generative AI features. Vidmini has none of these.

Kapwing is also made for teams: shared workspaces, comments, real-time collaboration and brand kits. Vidmini keeps nothing: once you close the page, the files exist only where you saved them.

Where Vidmini is the better choice

Privacy: your video never leaves your device. You can check it by loading a tool, turning off your connection and processing a file. It still works. Our Content Security Policy only lets the page talk to vidmini.com for its own code, and we use no tracking cookies.

No watermark, no account and no quota set by us. There is no monthly export limit and no 720p ceiling: trimming in fast mode, for example, copies the original streams without re-encoding. The only length limits are tool-specific: GIFs last 2 to 15 seconds and subtitles handle up to 3 hours of audio. There is no size limit set by us for common formats; desktop browsers handle multi-gigabyte files, while phones are limited by their free memory and storage. Rarer formats such as AVI or WMV go through an on-device fallback converter that accepts files up to 1 GB.

Subtitles run on your device too, with a Whisper speech model downloaded once from vidmini.com. They transcribe the spoken language (no translation), you can edit the text, then export SRT or WebVTT or burn the captions into the video.
