One tool for every common video format
Videos reach you in many containers. iPhones save MOV files, most Android phones and cameras save MP4, browsers and screen recorders such as OBS often produce WebM or MKV, and older iTunes downloads use M4V. The Video to MP3 tool reads all of them, so you do not need to find out what kind of file you have first.
Inside those containers the audio can be AAC (typical for MP4, MOV and M4V), Opus or Vorbis (typical for WebM) or several other codecs in MKV. Whatever it is, Vidmini decodes it and encodes a standard MP3 with the LAME encoder, so the result plays on any device.
Older formats such as AVI, WMV and FLV also work: they are first converted on your device by a built-in fallback, which is slower and downloads a 32 MB converter the first time (nothing is uploaded). Decoding also depends on your browser; Chrome and Edge support the widest range of codecs.
Phone recordings, voice memos and screen captures
Many people film something when they really want the sound: a lecture, a rehearsal, a child singing, a meeting on a phone propped on the table. Converting the video to MP3 keeps the part that matters and drops hundreds of megabytes of picture. One minute of 192 kbps MP3 is about 1.4 MB.
For speech, 128 kbps is plenty and keeps files small enough to send by message or email. For music or live performances, 256 or 320 kbps preserve more detail. A high bitrate cannot improve a recording made with a phone microphone, though, so 192 kbps is a sensible default for most clips.

Personal recordings are exactly the kind of file you should not have to upload to a stranger's server. Vidmini decodes the video with your browser's WebCodecs API and encodes the MP3 with WebAssembly, on your own device. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the internet and it still works.
There is no file size limit set by us: the output is streamed to your browser's private storage, so long recordings of several gigabytes are fine on a desktop browser.
