Where MOV files come from, and what is inside
MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container. It is what an iPhone or iPad saves when you record a video, what QuickTime Player produces for screen recordings on a Mac, and what many cameras and editing apps export. The container holds a video track, usually H.264 or HEVC on recent iPhones, and an audio track that is almost always AAC.
That AAC track is exactly what the MOV to MP3 tool reads. Vidmini opens the MOV, decodes the audio and encodes it to MP3 with the LAME encoder. The video track is simply left aside, so the size or resolution of the original footage has little influence on the result.
Why turn a MOV into an MP3?
A voice memo filmed on a phone, a lecture, an interview, a rehearsal, a family recording: often only the sound matters. A MOV file of a few minutes can weigh hundreds of megabytes because of the video, while the same audio as MP3 fits in a few megabytes and plays in any music app, car stereo, podcast editor or transcription service.
MP3 is also the safest format when you share with people on Windows or Android, where a MOV may not open without an extra player.
MP3 or M4A: which one to choose?
Because iPhone videos already carry AAC audio, you have a lossless shortcut: choose M4A as the output and Vidmini copies the AAC track as-is, without re-encoding. It is near-instant and keeps the exact original quality. The interface shows a "Lossless: no re-encoding" badge when this happens.
Choose MP3 when compatibility matters more, for example for older players, some websites that only accept MP3, or software that expects it. Converting AAC to MP3 means one decode and one encode, so pick 256 or 320 kbps if you want to stay as close as possible to the source. For speech, 128 or 192 kbps is plenty.

Most online converters upload your video to a server first. With phone videos that is slow, uses mobile data and hands your personal recordings to a third party. Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a MOV to MP3 on my iPhone?
Yes. Open vidmini.com in Safari or Chrome on the iPhone, choose the video from your library or the Files app, and download the MP3. On phones, very long videos are limited by free memory and storage, but a few hundred megabytes usually works fine.
Does converting MOV to MP3 reduce audio quality?
MP3 is a lossy format, and the audio inside a MOV is usually AAC, which is lossy too, so there is one extra generation of compression. At 256 or 320 kbps the difference is very hard to hear. If you want no loss at all, pick M4A: the original AAC track is copied without re-encoding.
My iPhone video is HEVC. Does that matter?
Not much for this tool, since only the audio track is converted to MP3. HEVC matters when you want to play or convert the video itself on devices that do not support it; for that, use the MOV to MP4 tool.
Is there a file size limit?
We don’t set one. The file is processed on your device and the result is written to your browser’s private storage, so desktop browsers handle multi-gigabyte MOV files. Phones are limited by their free memory and storage.
Which bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps, the default, is a good balance for music and speech. Use 128 kbps for voice recordings you want small, and 320 kbps for music you care about. A minute of MP3 at 192 kbps is about 1.4 MB.
Will the MP3 keep the full length of my video?
Yes, the whole audio track is converted. If you only need part of it, trim the video first with the Trim Video tool, then convert the shorter clip.
