Lossless merging for clips from the same device
Clips filmed on the same phone, camera or app session usually share the exact same stream settings: codec, resolution and encoder parameters. When every clip matches, Vidmini doesn’t decode anything. It copies the compressed video and audio of each clip one after the other into a new file and only adjusts the timestamps. The result has exactly the quality of the originals and is ready in seconds, even for long recordings. The page shows “Lossless: no re-encoding” when this happens.
This is the typical case for a vacation filmed in several takes, a phone recording that stopped and restarted, or segments exported one by one from the same screen recorder.
Clips of different sizes or formats
When the clips don’t match, for example a vertical phone video followed by a horizontal camera clip, or an MP4 followed by a WebM, Vidmini re-encodes everything into one MP4 file with H.264 video and AAC audio, the combination that plays everywhere.
The first clip in the list sets the output size. Clips with another size or orientation are scaled to fit inside that frame, with black bars where the shapes differ, so nothing is stretched or cut off. Put the clip whose format you want to keep at the top. The audio of every clip is converted to 48 kHz stereo, and clips that have no sound get silence for their duration, so the sound stays in sync with the picture for the whole video.
What the merge tool does, and what it doesn’t
Vidmini places the clips back to back, in the order you choose, and nothing more. There are no transitions, no background music and no text overlays: the output is your footage, joined cleanly.
If a clip is too long, trim it first with the trim tool, then merge. After merging, “Continue with this file” sends the combined video to another tool, such as compression to fit an upload limit or resizing for a social network, without selecting the file again.
Private, with no limit set by us
Most online video joiners upload every clip to a server, which takes time and hands your footage to a third party. Vidmini reads and processes the files inside your browser with the WebCodecs API and WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no watermark, and once the page has loaded it even works offline.
There is no size limit set by us: the output is streamed to your browser’s private storage, so desktop browsers can handle several gigabytes. On phones, free memory and storage set the practical limit.
Frequently asked questions
How many videos can I merge?
At least two, and there is no maximum set by us. You can select several files at once in the file picker or drop them together, then use “+ Add videos” to add more. Very long or numerous clips simply take more time and storage.
Does merging videos reduce quality?
Not when all clips have identical settings, which is common for clips from the same phone or camera: they are joined without re-encoding. When the clips differ, everything is re-encoded to H.264, which causes a small loss that is rarely visible on a modern device.
Can I merge a vertical and a horizontal video?
Yes. The output takes the size of the first clip, and clips with another orientation are fitted inside it with black bars. If you want a vertical result, place a vertical clip first.
Which formats can I combine?
MP4, MOV (including iPhone videos), M4V, WebM and MKV with codecs your browser can decode, such as H.264, HEVC, VP9 or AV1. AVI, WMV, FLV, MPEG, 3GP and other formats also work: they are first converted on your device by a built-in fallback, which is slower and downloads a 32 MB converter the first time. You can mix formats in one merge.
Can I add transitions or music?
No. The tool joins clips one after the other, without transitions, music or text. Each clip keeps its own sound, and clips without sound are filled with silence.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Every clip is read and joined by your own browser. The page is only allowed to talk to vidmini.com to load its own code, and no tracking cookies are used.
