Why Discord rejects your video
Discord caps the size of every file you attach. Free accounts can upload files up to 20 MB, double the old 10 MB limit that Discord raised on 13 August 2026. Anything larger gets the “Your files are too powerful” message. The limit applies to the size of the file itself, on mobile as on desktop, so you cannot count on the app to shrink a bigger clip for you. A single minute of 1080p gameplay recorded on a phone or with a capture tool is often 50 to 150 MB, so most clips still need to shrink a lot before they can be posted.
Nitro plans raise the limit: 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 500 MB with Nitro. Discord has changed these numbers before, which is why the tool starts just under 20 MB but lets you change the target: use the presets or set any value with the slider that matches what your account currently allows.
How Vidmini stays under 20 MB
A file size is simply bitrate multiplied by duration. Vidmini reads the length of your clip, calculates the bitrate that fits under the target, and keeps a small margin for the MP4 container and the audio track. The default target shows as 19 MB on the slider, which is about 19.9 MB in the decimal megabytes Discord uses, so the file lands just below the limit rather than on it. If the first encode still comes out too big, it runs one corrective pass automatically, so you do not have to try again with a lower setting.
When the budget is tight, spending it on a full 1080p picture gives a blocky, smeared result. Vidmini lowers the resolution for you in that case, because 720p or 480p with enough bits looks much cleaner in a Discord embed than starved 1080p. You can also cap the resolution yourself.
Tips for clips that look good under 20 MB
Length matters more than anything else. Twenty megabytes is comfortable for a 30 to 60 second highlight, but a five-minute video will look rough at that size whatever tool you use. Fast motion, grain and confetti-style particle effects cost more bits than a static menu or a talking head. If a gameplay clip still looks soft, try a shorter cut or 720p. For a short, silent reaction loop, a GIF can also be an option.
